I'm a list maker. I make lists for what to buy at the grocery, what I need to do for class, what I should print while I'm at the lab, things to pack...you get the idea. It is only fitting then that I make a bucket list for what is looking to be one the biggest adventures in my life.
The other night I spent some time researching "must do" things in Barcelona. Here is what I came up with so far. Also, as the days go by, I will be adding more to this list. Just check under the tab "Bucket List" (original, eh?) to see them all!

1. Visit Sagrada Familia - super famous church designed by Barcelona's main man, Antoni Gaudi. FUN FACT: Although construction started in 1883, it still is deemed "incomplete." 2. Trek up to Tibidabo - Barcelona is known for its beautiful, one-of-a-kind mountains. Tibidabo is one of the city's most infamous mountains. When tourists reach its peak, they are welcomed by a church and an AMUSEMENT park. How fun! 3. Photo Ops at Park Guell - Combine Gaudi's whimsical, fantasy-like style and a public garden, you got the coolest park ever. I can't even imagine how many photos I'm going to take here! 4. See the Mediterranean at Costa Brava - Being the beach baby that I am, there is no way I'm not visiting Costa Brava! 5. Experience the quintessential Gaudi at Casa Batllo - This has been on my bucket list since the idea of student teaching in Barcelona popped in my brain. Also known by the locals as the "House of Bones", it is in the heart of the city and definitely one of the most notable must do's. 6. Celebrate the Christmas season at Fira de Santa Llúcia - Many European countries are known for their extravagant Christmas markets, and Barcelona is home to one of the most famous! Fira de Santa Llúcia starts around late November, which is perfect timing! I can't wait to buy a "caganer." (Google it, ha! =P) 7. March up Montserrat - One of the things I am most excited about is Barcelona's unique landscape. Meaning "saw mountain" in Catalonia, Montserrat is a must do for every Barcelona vacationer. Plus, you have to take a cable car to get to the top...cool! 8. "Ooh" and "aww" at Spanish animals at Zoo de Barcelona - I really just love animals, hence this bucket list addition. Plus, they have red pandas! FUN FACT: This zoo was once home to the world's only albino gorilla. 9. Get arty at Museu Picasso de Barcelona - With over 3,500 artworks, the Museu Picasso is home to the largest collection of Spain's most infamous artist Pablo Picasso. 10. Eat tapas and shop at Las Ramblas - Food and shopping? What more could Miss Madden want?! Think of this as Michigan Avenue in Chicago, but instead it is lined with trees and Spanish performers. 11. Go on a free walking tour (or two!) - Runner Bean Tours offers various walking tours of the city, many of which are free. I'm most interested in the Gaudi and Old City tours. Plus, let's not forget it is FREE! =D 12. Spend a weekend lounging on the beaches of Portugal - You never know how the connections and friendships you make in life will pay off...and one of mine resulted in access to a beach house in Portugal! How awesome is that?! 13. Travel up north for a Parisian weekend (Ooh la la!) - It is customary for student teachers abroad to travel all over Europe on their weekends. One of ours will be to visit "The City of Love"...and hopefully a day trip to DISNEYLAND PARIS! (If anything remotely Disney is in the vicinity, I will absolutely try my hardest to get to it! So, how can I resist the Parisian version of my beloved Magic Kingdom?! =D) | |
