Like most families in Barcelona, my host family owns another home in the "countryside." But don't let it's location fool you...the countryside in Spain is GORGEOUS!
In this case, my host family's country retreat is located in Castellterçol, which is about an hour north of Barcelona. It was nice to take the weekend and get away from the city hustle. Plus, I enjoyed seeing an area where both the parents and the children have spent their summers. It reminded me of small town life in Kentucky, because everyone knows everyone and has lived their for years. It was nice :)

We also hiked a little Saturday. And can you guess where to? A CASTLE! Yup, it is called "Castel de la Popa" and it dates back to the 12th century. The castle gets it name because the rock it sits on kind if looks like the back part of a ship, which apparently is called "Popa." (It is NOT named after the Pope, which was my guess hahaha!) Life in Spain is too cool!
Sunday, we spent the morning in the neighboring town of Vic. And I visited my first LEGIT medieval festival!! It was so much fun!!
I should also mention that on the way to Castellterçol, we stopped in another village for lunch. I wish I could remember the name of the town. But it was so quaint and cute!
